The Catalan media have a story talking about Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Ikay Gundogan.
Mundo Deportivo feature a piece saying the player is currently a ‘distant option’ for the Camp Nou side.
It’s explained that Gundogan had been an ’emergency’ alternative for Barça in the summer. The idea was to sign him in case Frenkie de Jong left and they failed to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.
However, the Dutchman ended up staying. And despite recent rumours saying the Catalan side were attentive to Gundogan’s situation, as his contract expires in 2023, Mundo Deportivo now say he’s not a priority for the club.
Despite claiming he’s a ‘technical and versatile jewel’, the story states that that Barcelona’s priority continues to be Bernardo Silva, with the club insisting on signing the Portuguese player ‘yes or yes’.
It’s also said that Pep Guardiola ‘likes’ Gundogan, and ‘it would be good’ for the manager if a contract renewal with Manchester City is agreed soon.
Gundogan has been subject to transfer rumours throughout his career when a renewal is close, and this time is no different.
