Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega was one of the players Bayern Munich failed signing in the last window.

Manuel Neuer’s failure to make himself available at the start of this season saw the German champions look at a few stoppers in August. This had seen them look at the 31-year-old, but the Citizens weren’t interested in negotiating a deal.

DAZN interviewed the Manchester City goalkeeper, where he revealed the Bavarian club’s interest and also stated the Premier League winners weren’t keen on sanction his transfer. His comments are relayed by Spox.

“…we saw that when interest came from FC Bayern and all parties said quite openly: ‘We’re not letting Stefan go now’,” he said.

The German is a product of Arminia Bielefeld’s youth system and had two spells with their first team. He left them to join Manchester City as a free agent in 2022 and has been a backup to Ederson at the Etihad.

Ortega was part of Pep Guardiola’s squad that won the treble last season, where he kept nine clean sheets and conceded seven goals from 14 games, which includes the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City and two Champions League appearances.

On his move to Manchester City, Ortega explained: “I think I took a huge step last year by not only getting the cup games, but also the game in Dortmund.”
