Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz could be joining Portuguese giants Benfica on a loan deal, according to reports.

Outlet Goal Brasil claims that the player has been offered to the Eagles this week, and the Lisbon side is currently evaluating the situation.

The report claims that Benfica have approved the signing, but it will depend on some other transfer happening. They will only attempt to get Douglas in case midfielder Pizzi leaves the club this summer.

The talks are being handled by the Brazilian agent Carlos Leite, who travelled to the Portuguese capital last week and spoke to Benfica officials.

Douglas made the preseason with Manchester City’s squad, and was supposed to be playing for the club this season. However, the Football Association didn’t back his work permit application, even with an appeal from club boss Pep Guardiola and Brazil manager Tite.

After a bad loan spell at Girona, it seems that the player is looking for a different place to develop now.
