It’s only fitting that after beating Burnley 5-0 at the weekend, Manchester City have a player named in Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week.
Each Monday the grand old Italian newspaper pick out a selection of the best performers from around Europe, whilst ignoring their own Serie A for this purpose.
Usually there’s around three named from the Premier League and that’s the case again today. Gazzetta have chosen Anthony Martial, Antonio Rudiger and David Silva.
The Manchester City star is the most highly rated from England, being given 8/10. That may not seem like an especially high mark, but for Gazzetta it certainly is.
Frankfurt’s Luka Jovic did manage to get 9/10, but then he did score five goals against Fortuna Dusseldorf in an all-round excellent performance.
Silva made two assists for City as Pep Guardiola’s side eased themselves to a comfortable victory.
Top of the league after nine matches, the Premier League champions have scored a very impressive 26 goals so far.
