Maximo Perrone’s transfer to Manchester City is now ‘confirmed’ by the Argentine media.
Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo writes that the 20-year-old is the ‘new reinforcement’ of Pep Guardiola’s side following an agreement with Velez Sarsfield.
According to the report, Manchester City are paying €9.3m for the signing. That’s more than the player’s €8m release clause.
Maximo Perrone is currently with Argentina’s U20 squad, who are set to play the South American championship. It’s claimed that once the tournament is finished, then he’ll travel to England for medicals and to sign the contract.
Manchester City’s chase for the youngster had been no secret. Not only because the Argentine media had several stories about it, but also because people at Velez Sarsfield had made that public, even revealing that Pep Guardiola made a few calls to the player.
The possibility of the fee being higher than the release clause had already been covered by Cesar Luis Merlo on Twitter. The reason wasn’t revealed at the time, but it’s possible that shall allow Manchester City to pay for the move in several instalments.
