Joao Cancelo is now willing to consider a move to Italy this summer to get away from Manchester City, but only if Barcelona can’t sign him again permanently.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who suggest the defender’s thinking may be changing as his desired return to Barcelona fails to come to fruition.
The newspaper explains that Manchester City have held recent talks with Barcelona about a move for Cancelo, who is keen to return after spending last season on loan at Camp Nou.
Manchester City used this contact to make their stance clear again, the full-back has an asking price and a high salary that must be taken into account if a deal is to happen.
Barcelona responded to this that Pep Guardiola does not want the player and he only wants to return to Catalunya, suggesting it would be in City’s best interests to make a deal happen.
The problem is that they are currently nowhere near the figures that Manchester City want, with the main problem being the player’s high wages.
They could now be set to miss out too, with Cancelo reportedly opening up to the idea of returning to Italy.
He ‘would opt for the Italian route’ as an alternative if he can’t get the move to Barcelona, according to MD, which is a change in his stance.
It had been made clear that while Jorge Mendes was working in Italy and developing a potential move to Juventus, Cancelo was not keen on the idea and only wanted Barcelona.
They’d have similar problems paying his asking price and wages, even if the player is willing to lower the latter to facilitate his move away from Manchester City, but it seems it’s an option now being considered at least.
For now, Manchester City are resolutely sticking to their guns and demanding their asking price be met, which automatically rules out Barcelona and leaves this never ending back and forth to continue on.
