Manchester City striker Julián Álvarez is set to return to his hometown today where he will be declared an ‘illustrious citizen’ by the mayor following his World Cup win.
Álvarez was part of the Argentina squad which won the World Cup on Sunday, beating France in one of the best finals in the history of the competition.
It was the perfect end to a brilliant tournament for the youngster, who started on the bench but was brought into the first team after the opening game defeat to Saudi Arabia.
He didn’t look back after that point, scoring four goals and registering an assist in seven games, bagging two goals and an assist in the 3-0 win over Croatia in the final.
His performances were key to Argentina’s success and only added to the Manchester City forward’s growing reputation as one of the best youngsters in the world.
His achievements are now being honoured in his hometown of Calchín, with Telam reporting that he will travel there today and be declared ‘an illustrious citizen’.
He is set to be welcomed to the town as the main attraction of parade that will pass through the streets of the town and pass by his former club, Club Atlético Calchín.
The Manchester City star will then be declared an illustrious citizen, with local mayor Claudio Gorgerino already announcing those plans.
