Remember that strange deal Manchester City did involving Real Sociedad, Deportivo Maldonado and Geronimo Rulli?

Basically, the Citizens bought the Argentinean goalkeeper from the Uruguayan side, loaned him to the La Liga side, who then bought him six months later.

At the end of all this, Manchester City appeared to have made a small profit, and were said to have included a clause giving them 30% of a future sale.

This clause now looks like it could come in handy, as Napoli are reportedly interested in the Real Sociedad goalkeeper, with the Spanish side wanting around €26m for the 25-year-old.

Il Mattino are the ones reporting this on Thursday, claiming the La Liga outfit will not accept anything less than the aforementioned fee for their star, and one of the reasons behind this is because Manchester City have a say in the matter.

Apparently, Pep Guardiola’s side ‘would say no to a different price’, which suggests the 30% might not just be a ‘future sale’ clause.

It seems strange they would have a say in the matter, unless Real Sociedad agreed to this when they bought Rulli.

Normally, when such clauses are inserted in deals, the club owning the player has full control when it comes to a sale, with the other side having to accept whatever amount comes their way from the percentage.

Still, if Napoli do agree to spend €26m on Rulli, Manchester City will have made a €7.8m profit on a goalkeeper who never featured for them once.

Not a bad deal.
