Manchester City are ‘lurking’ in the background for AC Milan striker Rafael Leao, as he continues to impress for the Italian side.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say Milan are desperately trying to get the forward signed to a new deal to ward off interest.
They explain that Leao is the player that makes this Milan side ‘elegant and strong’, even on Champions League nights, where they have often struggled.
Milan, believe they have a star on their hands and want him tied down to a new deal as soon as possible, particularly as his current contract is set to expire in 2024.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes is dealing with negotiations and asked for €7m in the summer, but that figure is likely to increase.
At the moment there are no new summits planned but ‘time is running out’ as ‘the threats’ are becoming ‘more and more concrete’, and Manchester City are one of them.
Chelsea already made a bid in the summer and haven’t given up while Manchester City are ‘lurking’ in the background for the time being.
The impetus is on Milan’s owners, Red Bird, to put the money on the table, with Paolo Maldini also appealing to the player to try and convince him.
But if they can’t, or indeed won’t, then there is a belief Manchester City could be ready to make their move.
