On March 13th, Bild stated Manchester City are in the picture to sign Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich in the summer window.
Later that month, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reported the midfielder is open to joining the Citizens after refusing to consider Chelsea and Manchester United.
Fast forward to April and Sport talks about Manchester City when discussing the 29-year-old’s future plans. His deal lasts until 2025 and Barcelona have also shown interest in him.
Bayern are trying to renew the Germany international’s deal but haven’t been successful so far.
It’s claimed his future will be decided in the ‘coming weeks’ and if he doesn’t sign an extension, Bayern will make him available in the market and demand at least €50m.
Pep Guardiola knows the player well from his time at Bayern, while the latter’s demand of at least €50m wouldn’t be an issue for Manchester City to match. If the Citizens were to find a way to convince Kimmich, they could convert their firm interest into an offer.
Bayern are interested in Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong and Ronald Araújo, and could use Kimmich as part of the deal to sign one of them.
Meanwhile, Kimmich has told AS that he’s focused on the Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
When asked about his renewal, he said: “I want to talk to Bayern. And when I do that, I won’t go out and talk to the press about it. I’m only focused on playing against Real Madrid.”
AS asked the player if he can imagine moving to Spain, where he’s been linked with Barca and Real Madrid.
Responding to that, Kimmich explained: “At the moment I’m not thinking about this. As I say, first I will talk to Bayern. But, of course, Barca and Madrid are incredible clubs with an amazing history.”
