This week saw more comments from Joao Cancelo talking up a return to Barcelona in the summer window.
He didn’t really need to say it, the Manchester City player has made it clear often enough that he wants to be at the Catalan club permanently and expects City to facilitate that.
Cancelo’s comments were obviously picked up in the Catalan media, and Thursday’s edition of Sport has an article on the situation.
They reiterate that the Portugal international has made it clear to Manchester City that he wants out and only considers signing for Barcelona, refusing to accept the prospect of going anywhere else.
Barcelona and the player believe that with this tactic they can force down the transfer fee.
Pep Guardiola himself has made it clear Manchester City want a reasonable fee, and the report says the club are ‘being inflexible’. They have Cancelo on a contract lasting until 2027 and there’s no reason they should accept many millions less than the player’s market value.
Cancelo, 30-years-of-age, perhaps needs to accept that unless Barcelona pay up, he may not be able to get that move just because he kicks and screams for it.
