Earlier this week, Marca reported Atlético Madrid have contacted Manchester City’s Julián Álvarez to find out if he’s willing to join them in the summer window.
It was also said the La Liga side are well aware of the difficulties they would face to take him away from the Etihad.
That hasn’t stopped Atlético from taking further steps as a fresh report from Marca says that they have made ‘official contact’ with Manchester City for the striker.
The talks with the Citizens haven’t progressed well because they have slammed the door on the Madrid club, as Pep Guardiola’s side have no intention to let the 24-year-old leave.
Erling Haaland is ahead of the Argentina international at Manchester City, and Atlético have been hoping to lure Álvarez with the promise of regular playing time. The Citizens’ tough stance makes a potential deal almost impossible in the next window.
Atlético had a great desire to sign the World Cup winner, but the latest development from Manchester City means Álvarez is likely to remain as a dream.
There is unlikely to be any change in City’s stance, unless the South American pushes for an exit, or if Guardiola’s side bring in a new attacker.
