Manchester City flop Kalvin Phillips is already being discussed by Bayern Munich as they look for an alternative to Declan Rice.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the player is very much on Thomas Tuchel’s list of targets as he plans for the future at the club.
The newspaper explains that unlike previous managers at Bayern, Tuchel has been given more power over transfers, which were once completely controlled by a director of football.
The departure of Hasan Salihamidzic has left that role at the club open, and Bayern are yet to fill it, meaning Tuchel has stepped up and been given more power by the club’s temporary Sports Committee.
That means the German is targeting players he wants rather than those he is given by a man above him and Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is one such player.
Tuchel had been targeting a move for Rice, but he has ruled a switch to Bavaria out, preferring to join either Arsenal or Manchester City this summer.
Bayern aren’t getting involved in the battle and Philips is the ‘next alternative’ to his England teammate, with a move for City midfielder ‘already under discussion’.
There is no mention of an asking price or contact with those in charge at the Etihad at this moment in time, just that Phillips is the alternative to Rice and very much on Tuchel’s ‘blueprint for the future’.
Whether he can get a deal over the line remains to be seen but he’s been given the power by those in charge at the Allianz Arena and is keen to make it happen.
