Manchester City defender Yan Couto’s move to Borussia Dortmund ‘should go through this week’ with the two clubs close to an agreement.

That’s according to Sky Sport Germany, who report that a deal for the Brazilian full back is ‘about to be completed’.

Sky explain that while Manchester City and Dortmund are still negotiating a deal for the defender, who returned from a loan spell at Girona this summer, there is a confidence that the deal should go through.

The German side are planning for a loan deal with an option to buy, although it could be a permanent deal as that would work out cheaper than the loan with option.

Manchester City prefer a permanent exit as clubs are only allowed to loan out six players a season and would like to keep a slot open on that front so selling Couto permanently is better for them.

It remains to be seen if they can convince Dortmund into a permanent deal, or striker an agreement for one, but a breakthrough is expected this week and if everything goes to plan, Couto will join Dortmund’s training camp in Switzerland.

Couto, for his part, is currently in Brazil ‘waiting for the green light’ so he can make the move and leave the Etihad once again.
