CEO of the City Group Ferrán Soriano blocked Savinho from leaving Manchester City to join Tottenham this summer.
That’s according to AS, who cover the Brazilian today after he signed a new deal at the Etihad this week.
Savinho recently signed a new deal until 2031, despite spending the summer being linked with a move away. Tottenham were the ones who chased him most.
Manchester City have instead decided to renew him. That’s seen as a strategic move to avoid ‘another brain drain’ at the club.
Savinho was close to leaving for Tottenham, but the deal was ultimately blocked by Soriano. He and Manchester City have made it clear that he is there to stay.
Indeed, AS Say that he was ‘marked in red’ when the transfer window closed. The board consider him a potential star and believe he is far from his peat at 22. Pep Guardiola had approved his departure, though. That would have funded a move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
Manchester City want to learn their lessons from Cole Palmer. They accept it was a mistake to let him go and a bigger one to let him join a direct rival. Thus, Savinho was blocked from leaving for Tottenham.
Now Savinho has signed a new deal, and the focus is on re-establishing himself in Pep Guardiola’s plans, ahead of the World Cup next summer.
