Julian Nagelsmann’s acceptance that transfer business will be a part of Euro 2024 this summer could help facilitate departures for Brighton and Hove Albion duo Deniz Undav and Pascal Groß this summer.
Frankfurter Rundschau cover the situation today and how the manager has almost welcomed transfer talks in the German set up this summer.
They explain that former manager Joachim Löw once famously put a stop to transfer talk officially, banning advisors from the team’s headquarters and insisting players deal with matters before joining the group or training camp.
Nagelsmann has a much more open approach to the matter, even sharing an agency with several of the players currently in the squad.
He accepts that the topic of transfers is spreading into the national team and will be a part of matters this summer at Euro 2024, whether he likes it or not.
“Either they stay at the clubs where they were successful. Or they go to other good clubs. The boys can make good life decisions, in the end they are nice decisions.
“Most people thought about it before the European Championships.”
And that could end up helping Brighton, as two of their stars, currently in the Germany squad, are locked in transfer negotiations this summer.
Deniz Undav appears set for a permanent move away from the club after a loan spell at VfB Stuttgart last season, although the two sides are locked in negotiations over a buyback clause.
Then there is Pascal Groß, who has found himself being targeted by Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt this summer after long establishing himself as a star for the Seagulls.
Those potential exits could have been held up by their participation in Euro 2024 but Germany, and Nagelsmann’s openness to negotiations taking place means the Brighton duo don’t have to wait until the tournament in Germany is over.
That could help to facilitate matters, and is perhaps why the likes of Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Dortmund are now pushing for talks with Brighton.
