Rubén Sellés has been labelled as a ‘manager with the face of a loser’ as his woes post Hull City and Sheffield United continue.
Heraldo de Aragón and El Periódico Aragón cover the former Hull City and Sheffield United boss today as he continues to struggle at Real Zaragoza.
First Heraldo, who report that he’s failed to get the Spanish side going. According to them, the effect of bringing him in is beginning to fade without the team winning. He took over with them five points from safety and now they are nine points adrift.
He was part of a rescue mission launched three weeks ago but it ‘remains aborted’. He’s had no practical or numerical impact on their ‘doomed existence’. The situation under him is worsening from week to week and their rivals are pulling away.
His appointment has yet to yield any positive results. His appointment, particularly after Hull City and Sheffield United, was a risky decision at the time and it hasn’t paid off. There’s been ‘more hints than results’.
There is a feeling that a losing mentality remains at the club and has been ‘exacerbated’ by Selles. He’s now on nine straight losses. That’s dangerous for Real Zaragoza, who are in critical condition. Selles is described as a ‘manager with the face of a loser’.
Sheffield United and Hull City run continues
El Periódico are equally unimpressed. They say Selles has failed to get Zaragoza back on track since his arrival.
He’s now on a run of 11 defeats in 14 league games after his time at Sheffield United. Now he’s accelerated a decline for Zaragoza ‘fuelled reckless stubbornness and questionable excuses’.
Selles’ inexperience and lack of familiarity with the league, club and squad cast doubt on his arrival and it hasn’t been dismissed. Sporting director Txema Indias added to the confusion to the matter with explanation that didn’t wash. He even reported that he’d received a WhatsApp message from Selles offering his services.
The newspaper feels the worst crime was targeting a manager ‘marked by a clear losing streak’. However, the opposite was needed, particularly as Real Zaragoza are also ‘another relentless loser’. Some gave him the benefit of the doubt but that has now gone.
His new team are now nine points from safety and he’s being accused of ‘cheap excuses’ to justify his own ‘ineptitude’. There’s even a belief he can turn an advantage against his side.
It’s all a bit of a disaster, as it was at Hull City and Sheffield United, and questions are being asked once again.
