Rangers manager Mark Warburton has told the Ibrox faithful they need to be more patient. The Glasgow club returned to the SPL this season, but are already seven points behind leaders Celtic after their opening eight games.
Speaking to Rangers’ official website, Warburton said the players he brought in during the summer need to be given time to settle in at the club. Warburton thinks when players sign for Rangers they are expected to deliver straight away, and highlighted Erik Lamela’s situation when he joined Tottenham Hotspur.
The Rangers manager said it took Lamela time to start producing for the Premier League side, but the Argentina international is now delivering for his team
“I remember Lamela coming to Spurs and people saying it took him 12 months to settle in and now he’s producing a fantastic level of football. But 12 months to settle in… the expectation here at Rangers is such that players are expected to deliver immediately, and it takes time,” said the Rangers boss.
Lamela joined Tottenham from AS Roma as part of the money received for the transfer of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. The Argentine was expected to fill the void left by the Wales international, but he struggled in his first season.
However, since Mauricio Pochettino was installed as the Tottenham manager Lamela has started to produce for the North London side, and is now a key player in the team.
