French side Marseille are keen to make more signings before the end of the month, after a impressive summer so far. Their priority right now is to add a striker to the squad, and manager Rudi Garcia has been honest about his pursuit of Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.
The Frenchman has spoken to L’Equipe in an interview which will be coming out on Thursday, and the French newspaper has already released a few quotes from him.
Talking about signings, Garcia confirmed that Giroud is a perfect target for Marseille right now, but the problem is that he wouldn’t jump at the chance to leave Arsenal for the Ligue 1 side.
“I don’t think Olivier Giroud wants to come to Marseille. That’s the problem. You can understand him. When you’re a striker for France, you play for Arsenal and you’re going to change clubs, you might have other interests than Marseille. We need players who are motivated to play for us.”
Giroud has always been a subject of speculation, despite his five solid years at Arsenal. He’s been linked to an Everton move lately, although the latest news from France said he’s decided to stay in London with Arsenal.
The arrival of Alexandre Lacazette at Arsenal will put further pressure on Giroud, and it’s pressure he’ll be motivated to respond to, with the World Cup appearing on the horizon.
