When Bruno Lage took his first job since his exit from Wolverhampton Wanderers, it seemed he didn’t need much to win a trophy.

Botafogo were clear on top of the Brazilian League table, and only saw manager Luis Castro leave because he received a huge offer from Saudi Arabia.

Lage took over, but couldn’t keep that form, having lost their last three league games.

That’s why Botafogo need big support for the final months of the season, and as reported by Globo Esporte, their owner John Textor is asking their fans to help.

The club chief announced an open training session for supporters, and in his message, there’s a request for them to back the former Wolves boss.

“You know, it’s going to be difficult. They’re coming after us, but we’re going to do it, with your support, love and the hard work of coach Bruno, the football staff, the team. They show their love for you every day on the football pitch. You know they’re working hard. Keep fighting, keep supporting and loving this team.”

Lage left Wolves in October 2022, and it was only in July 2023 that he took charge of Botafogo, as he was obviously waiting for a good offer on the table.

In nine league matches in charge, he has three wins, three draws and three defeats so far. With 14 fixtures to go, they’re still on top of the table, six points clear, but there’s obviously a concern that this title can still be lost.
