Following the news that Sporting manager Ruben Amorim flew to London to speak to West Ham United, that subject obviously took over the entire Portuguese media.

There’s not much more information about the coach’s negotiations with the Hammers, but the reports were more than enough for the local media to start commenting on that possibility.

On TVI Notícias, Nuno Farinha recalls that Amorim had been heavily linked to Liverpool, and points out that going to West Ham would be an entirely different scenario.

It’s said those clubs are on ‘different levels’, and from what Amorim achieved so far, an exit to Anfield would make much more sense than the Hammers.

Meanwhile, on Sic Noticias, Luis Aguillar has very similar claims, saying that leaving Sporting for West Ham would not bring him to a new sporting level, despite a potential pay raise.

It’s said that Lions’ fans would understand their manager leaving for Liverpool, but the Hammers are ‘sportingly inferior’ to the Lisbon side.

Sporting are indeed about to win the Portuguese league and will be qualified for the Champions League next season, so all this reaction feels natural, although being in the Premier League is certainly a great showcase for Amorim, and that is not mentioned.
