Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that the departure of Álex Moreno to Aston Villa is a “significant loss” for the club this month.
Moreno is on the verge of completing a move to Aston Villa, having been targeted by Villans boss Unai Emery as his first major signing of what is likely to be a busy month.
A report today made it clear that the had already flown to Birmingham to undergo a medical and finalise his move to Villa Park.
The belief was that it would be announced at some point today, but that is yet to happen from either Betis or Aston Villa.
In the meantime, the Spanish side are preparing for their Supercopa de Espana clash with Barcelona tomorrow, with Moreno left out of their squad because of his impending move.
And speaking in his pre-match press conference, manager Manuel Pellegrini was asked about the player and seemed to confirm his move to Aston Villa.
“Of course it’s an important loss, he was in a great moment and gave us a lot defensively and offensively,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying.
“I already said that if it was a sale that would solve the club’s problems it had to be made. In this case it will help the club, we have to find a way to replace him, which won’t be easy.”
