RB Leipzig boss Julien Nagelsmann says he has warned striker Timo Werner of the dangers of a move to Liverpool.
Werner has been in redhot form once again this season, scoring 25 goals in 31 games in all competitions, as well as registering ten assists.
He has 20 goals in 20 Bundesliga games, putting him just three behind the league’s top goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, who has 23 to his name.
His return to form has naturally attracted plenty of interest, with the 23-year-old once again linked with a big money move in the summer.
Liverpool are a name that is continually linked, with Jürgen Klopp’s side having been linked in the past and the latest rumours suggesting they are ‘working hard’ to sign the German.
“It is more difficult for Timo Werner to play in Liverpool than in Leipzig,” he told SportBild, relayed by Express.de.
“He won’t get the status he has here in the first few years. I tell him that too.”
Whether Werner heeds his manager’s advice will be interesting. It certainly is true that he won’t be guaranteed a starting place at Liverpool given the popularity and success of their current front three.
It is also true that life at Liverpool will be much harder than in Leipzig, with the pressure in particular on a completely different scale.
However, if there is one club players, particularly a German player, want to join at the moment it is Liverpool and that is likely to have more pulling power than even Nagelsmann’s darkest warnings could counteract.
