Scott Parker has had two spells at Fulham, one as a player and another as a manager. The 42-year-old retired in 2017 and spent the last four years of his playing career at the London club.
He returned to Fulham when Slaviša Jokanović included him in his back-room staff for the 2018/19 season. The former midfielder maintained his role as an assistant manager under Jokanović’s successor, Claudio Ranieri, the same season.
Following the Italian’s exit from Fulham in February 2019, Parker was appointed as caretaker manager and then his position was made permanent later that year.
The ex-England international helped Fulham achieve promotion to the Premier League by overcoming Brentford in the play-off final at Wembley during the 2019/20 season. He also played a key role in helping Bournemouth return to the top flight this season.
Parker left the Cherries last August and took charge of Club Brugge on New Year’s Eve. He’s now talked about his joy of achieving success with Fulham and Bournemouth when asked if his kids follow the Belgian club.
“Oh yeah. You can count on that. My nine-year-old son lives here with us. He trains twice a week with the local U9 here. He’s loving it. (laughs) He doesn’t really understand what’s going on, but he enjoys it. Tuesday night I went to watch his training,” Parker told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“The coach was speaking. And I saw his face … He runs to one side, while the rest run elsewhere. Wrong, wrong. But that’s what football. It brings back fond memories. When I’m ever sitting by the fire as a pensioner, my stories will be about the promotion with Fulham at Wembley, the promotion with Bournemouth… And I hope we’ll talk about Club Brugge too.”
