Former Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup has revealed how he used his connections at the club to get close to Cesc Fabregas at Como.

Bold have an interview with the new Rapid Wien manager today. The Austrians announced Johannes Hoff Thorup as their new manager at the start of the year, marking his first role since leaving Norwich.

The Danish coach had spent 252 days out of work after leaving Norwich in April 2025. He’s been working to get back since then, even turning down offers from the likes of QPR to ensure his next club is the right one.

His time at Carrow Road was not a successful one either. He won just 14 of 47 games in charge. That included a run of six defeats in eight in the Championship preceding his departure.

He’s been working to improve himself since, even admitting to his own mistakes while with the Canaries. He has seemingly included following other coaches, such as rising star Fabregas, on his itinerary.

Rome, Italy – December 14, 2025: Cesc Fabregas coach manager of Como seen in action during the Serie A Enilive 2025-2026 football match between AS Roma and Como 1907 at Olympic Stadium.

The Spaniard has been earning rave reviews for his work with Como. And Hoff Thorup used a connection from Norwich City, Jack Wilshire, to get his chance.

“I’ve always tried to reach out to some of the people you meet on your way to see if you can stop by and spar,” he said.

“I had Jack as an assistant at Norwich, and we still talk a lot. Jack of course knows Fabregas from Arsenal, so I got the number through Jack, and then I just called Fabregas.

“He was more than open to me coming to Como and seeing the whole thing. I had a short week where I watched training, and I also saw them play a Serie A match.

“He’s completely down to earth, and he is just super dedicated to his work. He is also very curious as a person. He really wanted to hear about the Championship.

“If we had had the time, we would still be sitting down in Como and talking.”
