Jorge Sampaoli has refused the offer to take charge of Nottingham Forest, according to reports.
Goal Brasil journalist Thiago Fernandes writes that despite the Tricky Trees’ attempt to bring him to the City Ground, the Argentine manager has other plans for now.
Sampaoli reportedly rejected Nottingham Forest as he waits for Flamengo, as it’s said he ‘dreams’ of working at the Rio de Janeiro club and is waiting for their call to replace Vitor Pereira there.
The interest from the English side had been reported by the Brazilian media earlier this week, and it was always made it clear that it would be a battle between the two clubs for the signing.
Brazilian football may not seem an attractive destination as the Premier League, but Sampaoli does have good reasons for that choice.
He worked in the South American country when in charge of Santos and Atletico Mineiro, and knows very well that Flamengo are a powerful club who can offer him the chance to win big things.
Especially because they come from a season where they won the Copa Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.
Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, don’t even have the guarantee they’ll be in the top flight next season, so that would be a risky entrance door for the manager in English football.
