Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso is hoping Federico Chiesa can force his way into Liverpool’s plans, so he can include him in Italy’s squad for the November international break.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say Gattuso is an ‘excellent psychologist’ and wants to get the Liverpool man back to his best.
They state that Gattuso wants to get Chiesa into his squad somehow and the November break is the last chance to do so. But he’s aware that bringing the Liverpool man back could bring significant drawbacks, including some ‘over-hyping’ back in Italy.
That’s why he’d enter into ‘psychologist’ mode with the Liverpool forward, perhaps focusing on ensuring he doesn’t get too ahead of himself.
The hope is that Chiesa can get more playing time in Liverpool’s upcoming matches to further justify him being in the squad. There’s been good news on that front after he came off the bench and bagged an assist for Liverpool’s equaliser in the defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
That ‘decisive’ moment was something Gattuso celebrated. The fact Chiesa is also now in Liverpool’s Champions League squad after Giovanni Leoni’s injury is another plus point.
All eyes are now on his performances and whether he can do enough to get back into contention for Italy and Gattuso’s welcoming arms.
