Following the purchase of Strasbourg by BlueCo, the Ligue 1 side decided it was time for a change at the manager role and sacked Frédéric Antonetti.
That has kicked off a search for his replacement, among which can be found Patrick Vieira, who has also been linked with the Leeds United job, as recalled by L’Equipe on Thursday.
The Whites are yet to find the successor to Sam Allardyce, who was unable to save the Elland Road side from relegation to the Championship in the final games of the last campaign.
He subsequently left, and much like their struggles to find the replacement for Jesse Marsch, Leeds are taking their time to get the next man in.
Vieira, who left Crystal Palace during the last campaign, hasn’t found himself a new job, and has been said to be of interest to the Whites.
No appointment has taken place just yet, which has opened the door for Strasbourg to talk to him.
Three names are being sought after, and those are the aforementioned Vieira, Philippe Montanier and Karel Geraerts, although L’Equipe state the latter no longer appears to be in the race.
This is because Strasbourg are ‘favouring a French manager’, meaning the other two are in a two horse race to get the job.
Vieira appears to be the ‘priority avenue’, with RMC Sport reporting a meeting between him and the club president Marc Keller, but it remains to be seen how keen he is about a return to Ligue 1 after his time at OGC Nice between 2018 and 2020.
With Leeds offering him a chance to remain in England, albeit in the Championship, he could remain on the radar of Premier League clubs if he does a good job.
That’s certainly something to keep in mind.
