Chelsea are back in the market for a new manager for the second time this season, after having sacked Graham Potter last weekend.
On Tuesday, AS reported Luis Enrique is in talks with the west London club and his assistant at AS Roma, Iván de la Peña, who now works as an agent, is negotiating with the Blues.
Enrique has been without a job since he stepped down as the Spain manager after the World Cup. The 52-year-old is available for free and Fichajes.net state he’s one of the options for Chelsea.
The first is to do with bringing in new players who can adapt to his playing style. He’s asked the Premier League side for a striker who can ‘provide mobility’, a midfielder to play along with Enzo Fernández and a winger to help with rotation.
Enrique wants to be guaranteed enough time to implement his ideas. Taking into account the ‘mismanagement’ of this season from Todd Boehly and co, he needs Chelsea to trust his work.
The Spaniard believes he can help the Blues challenge for trophies in the short term. This is the second request.
His last request is to have a small squad with a high level of players. This is only possible if Chelsea carry out ‘important departures’ after this season.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are ready to meet the ‘three requests’ placed by Enrique to become Potter’s successor.
