Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel initially contacted Manchester City’s Kyle Walker ‘on April 11th’ about a potential move to Bayern Munich this summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the pair are ‘still in touch’ about a transfer to the Allianz Arena as the German champions look for a replacement for Benjamin Pavard.
They explain that while reports of Bayern being interested in Walker emerged on Friday, the ‘flirtation’ between the Manchester City man and the club has been going on for much longer.
There were already rumours around the Champions League match between the two clubs on 11th April and Walker was ‘in contact’ with Tuchel at that point. Both spoke to each other after the clash and his future, and the possibility of a transfer came up.
Tuchel already knew at the time that Walker’s contract at Manchester City only had a year to run and City would only collect a relatively small fee for him as a result.
The German coach is impressed by the ‘defensive strength’ Walker showed against Real Madrid when he kept Vinicius Junior in check. The player’s ‘trump card’ is his top speed of 37 km/h.
In addition, his development over the course of his career from an offensive full-back into a defensive stabiliser has been noted as it is exactly what Bayern are looking for.
Bayern and Tuchel believe that Walker could fit into the right-back role in their side perfectly and the manager is ‘still in contact’ about a transfer.
Negotiations are already underway but there is no agreement yet, particularly with Manchester City keen to get the player signed to a new deal.
