Martin Zubimendi put in a good performance for Real Sociedad at the weekend as the Basque club narrowly lost 1-0 to Barcelona.
The midfielder managed to impress despite the loss, with Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo going as far as to say it was a ‘masterclass’ which ‘carried a message’ to the Blaugrana.
That message is that Xavi Hernandez was correct in the summer when he demanded the 24-year-old was signed. Mundo present all this as a way Xai was somehow let down, and they bring in Manchester City star Bernardo Silva as another example.
According to the report, Xavi was ‘made to believe’ that Bernardo could be signed for ‘less than €80m’ from Manchester City.
Even if that was the case, €70m, €60m or even €50m would have been difficult for Barcelona to raise, and there’s no reason for Pep Guardiola’s side to accept less than they deem is the correct level.
There was similarly misleading claims around Zubimendi, with the media closest to Real Sociedad insisting he wasn’t that keen on a move anyway.
Xavi still wants a big new signing for midfield, despite the options he already has, and therefore expect these names to appear again on Barcelona’s agenda.
