Wolverhampton Wanderers fans, remember Bruno Lage? You’ve probably seen him in the news this week thanks to his sacking at Benfica and being replaced by Jose Mourinho.
Well, according to Correio da Manha, there’s more to the story than that and its led to ‘open war’ between the former Wolves boss and the Portuguese side.
They explain that while Lage has refused any compensation from Benfica for his sacking, something he also did at Wolves if reports are to be believed, he’s also rejected a confidentiality clause be included in the termination agreement.
That would limit him in any approaches he may take in relation to his time at the club and specifically his exit.
According to CM’s information, Lage did not like that he had been expressly asked not to reveal that it was Benfica’s general manager Mário Branco, who scheduled a game against Santa Clara on Friday against his wishes. He believed it should have been on Saturday to give the squad more time to prepare and rest.
CM also say that the former Wolves boss knows that Benfica had already subtly started making steps towards Jose Moruinho despite him still being in charge at the club.
As far as he is concerned, he has plenty of reasons to be hurt by what has happened and does not intend to be silenced. He’s already done them a favour in dispensing with compensation, although he has demanded that his technical team, which includes his brother, receive what they are entitled to.
He seems to want to be able to speak openly and so now finds himself in open war with Benfica as they look to keep him quiet.
