Lyon coach Laurent Blanc has urged Chelsea to use “common sense” with Malo Gusto after the player suffered a hamstring injury in the recent clash with Lille.
Gusto was one of the many players signed by Chelsea in the January transfer window, joining the Blues in a €30m deal from the French side.
Unlike the rest of their January business, though, he was left at his former club until the end of the season, with Lyon refusing to sanction a deal unless that was the case.
The hope was that he would continue being a regular for them this season, having already made 17 appearances for them in Ligue 1, and continue his rapid development.
That is now in jeopardy, though, after he was forced to leave the pitch in tears on the half hour mark in the clash against Lille.
It´s since been confirmed that he’s suffered a hamstring injury, with it yet to be determined when he will return from it.
That will determined by how Chelsea and Lyon decide to deal with his injury recovery, with the decision in the Blues’ hands given they now own the player, something Blanc is hoping they show ‘common sense’ in.
“There is always the little problem with Malo,” Olympique-et-Lyonnais report him saying.
“It’s a bit complicated, he belongs to another club and I hope that there will be common sense between OL and Chelsea. It’s not a relapse.
“He was injured against Monza with a hamstring injury. He has recovered, only there is a scar, but he has not re-injured himself. I mean, he didn’t tear it.
“There’s certainly some inflammation of his scar from the first injury, that’s obvious because he still has some discomfort, but it won’t require a long absence. We have to look after it well, treat it well with rest.”
