Alexander Isak could be getting more holidays than most this summer, given Sweden’s failure to qualify for Euro 2024.
After 21 goals in 30 Premier League matches, Newcastle United will want their forward to be safely sat on a beach somewhere, and for as long as possible.
However, football-mad Isak has other ideas and not only has he happily joined up with Sweden for their upcoming friendlies, he also made sure to arrive earlier than expected.
Sweden are set to play Denmark on Wednesday, and they then face Serbia at the weekend. Svenska Dagbladet report that Isak joined up for a ‘pre-camp’ last Monday, which largely consisted of U21 players.
That came just days after he’d travelled back from Australia following Newcastle United’s friendly against Tottenham Hotspur.
Such commitment has impressed Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson, who is quoted as saying: “He does it because he is a good teammate. That’s what we need. Players who are passionate and who want to be part of this.”
The manager is also thrilled with Isak generally and has clearly been watching his performances for Eddie Howe’s side in the recently conduced season: “He is one of the best in the world at deep runs, in my opinion. Every time I watch his matches I smile. Because his runs are so good, I am so impressed.”
Newcastle United will be hoping the Sweden friendlies pass without incident and Isak can soon get to that beach that’s calling out his name.
