Turkey interest in Wolves player
Fotomaç have a report on Beşiktaş’ interest in Wolves stopper José Sá for the summer.
The Black Eagles are keen on adding a new goalkeeper to their squad next season and are looking at a few options.
The Wolves man is one of them, and their plan is to bring in a player to compete with Ersin Destanoğlu. The Turkish club are already keeping a close watch on the 33-year-old.
According to the newspaper, the Portuguese made a trip to Turkey to watch the Istanbul club’s 2-1 win over Kasımpaşa on March 19th. There’s no mention as to why he made this trip or whether any discussions took place between him and the Black Eagles.
Either way, he is on their target list and Beşiktaş manager Sergen Yalçın has given his approval to this operation. It’s now down to the club’s other leaders to launch an attempt to try and sign Sá after this season.
Wolves are now bottom of the table and are 13 points away from the safe zone. They are most likely to be relegated, and the Portuguese could leave Molineux in the next window.
Our take: Why Sá could make sense
In the winter market, Beşiktaş showed keen interest in Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır. The move didn’t go through after the Red Devils pulled the plug at the last minute.
Two months ago, Sport Witness relayed news the Old Trafford club are willing to sell him for €5m. On March 25th, we covered claims from Turkey that the Istanbul club plan to sign Bayındır for free.
The Red Devils may not be open to releasing him. This, coupled with Ersin Destanoğlu’s recent good performances may have convinced them to move on from Bayındır.
Beşiktaş could be look at alternatives and this is where José Sá comes into the picture. His contract at Wolves is until 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €5m.
Sá can provide cover and competition to Destanoğlu and is unlikely to cost a lot in the summer.
