On December 21st, La Dernière Heure stated Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Idumbo Muzambo.
He was then at Ajax and his deal there was expiring at the end of this season. The north London club were in for a cheap deal in the winter market but lost him to Sevilla.
Fast forward to February and Friday’s edition of AS mentions Tottenham’s failed efforts when discussing the 18-year-old.
It’s claimed Sevilla manager Quique Sánchez Flores is delighted that his side were able to beat Spurs to sign the youngster.
After the Premier League side showed interest, Sevilla took the lead and sealed the deal with Ajax for €300,000 plus bonuses.
The Belgium U19 international has signed a deal until 2028 and it includes a €30m release clause. AS say the clause will continue to rise as and when he enjoys minutes in La Liga.
Muzambo, who was signed for the Sevilla’s youth team, has already trained with the first team, and Quique Sánchez Flores had him on the bench against Rayo Vallecano, Atlético Madrid and Valencia.
This may suggest his decision to pick the Andalusian club over Spurs seems is paying off already.
Muzambo is a great admirer of Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé and the two could face each other next season, if the Frenchman were to join Real Madrid.
“I love Mbappé. He’s very fast, very talented, he can pass, dribble… He can do whatever he wants with the ball and he also has a great mentality,” Muzambo told Mucho Deporte, relayed by AS.
