Celtic’s Luis Palma spent the second half of last season on loan at Olympiacos. He left Celtic Park again in July, to join Lech Poznań on loan with an option to buy.
Celtic allowed the winger to go out on loan twice as Brendan Rodgers had dropped him from the core plans.
Prior to the Celtic man’s loan move to the Greek club, he had an initial opportunity to move to Poland in January. That’s according to Przegląd Sportowy Onet journalist Łukasz Olkowicz, relayed by Meczyki.pl.
He claims another Polish club, Legia Warszawa, made an approach to sign him in the last winter market.
Gonçalo Feio, who was the Legia Warszawa manager between April 2024 and June 2025, held talks with the winger. He was convinced about signing the Celtic player, but his old club decided against making advances.
According to Olkowicz, Legia Warszawa had also decided against making advances to sign Palma from Celtic last summer.
“During the winter, Legia also considered loaning Luis Palma from Celtic. In January, Feio even had a conversation with him and was convinced,” he said.
“Ultimately, the club decided against the move due to their strategy; such a player would be very expensive to retain, as would his buyout from Scotland. He wouldn’t be able to help the club in the long run.
“The topic of Palma could have come up again at Łazienkowska Street in the summer, but Legia didn’t want to consider him again due to the buyout price.”
The journalist insists Lech Poznań took a different approach and “don’t regret” signing the 25-year-old. He’s scored six goals and contributed four assists from 19 matches this season.
“Now they [Lech Poznań] have to worry about whether they will find more than €4m to buy him out,” Olkowicz explained.
