Sao Paulo manager Rogerio Ceni has confirmed that youngster Luizão is looking likely to leave on a free transfer next year, after West Ham tried to sign him in the summer.

Luizão is one of several highly rated youngsters currently at the Brazilian club and was close to moving to the Premier League in the last window

That came amid interest from West Ham, who were keen to add him to their defensive line and made a bid for his services.

They joined the race for his signature in August but in October it was revealed the move had fallen away when West Ham were left amazed by the demands the defender put on the table.

He’s continued to be linked with a move to the Premier League since, with it explained that he is set to let his contract expire in January before looking at a move to Europe.

Now Ceni has confirmed as much, explaining the situation around the player when asked about it and other youngsters in the squad.

“I face this (the exits) as a normal thing. I regret the way they leave,” Bolavip report him saying.

“It was for the club to make good money with these players. What we regret most is a young player like Luizão, with a contract ending in January, leaving free.

“Igor and Luizão finish the contracts. As far as I know there was no renewal, so it may happen that we lose these players.”
