Fulham striker Raúl Jiménez has a contract expiring at the end of June and his future at the Premier League club remains uncertain.
On May 4th, the Mexico international said “we’re working on it” when asked about a Fulham renewal.
Three days later, Sport Witness relayed news that both Everton and Club América are closely monitoring his situation at Fulham.
The striker is a product of the Mexican club’s youth system and spent three years with their first team.
He left Club América for Atlético Madrid in 2014 and has been in Europe since then. The 35-year-old has earlier addressed his desire to return to his former club at some point.
Two weeks ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Mexico that he could either sign an extension at Fulham or return to Wolverhampton Wanderers. His priority is to continue in Europe next season.
Interest confirmed in Fulham player
On June 7th, Club América appointed Guillermo Almada as their new manager, just days after parting ways with André Jardine.
Fox Sports in Mexico have had a chat with Jardine, who confirmed Club América’s interest in Raúl Jiménez.
The outgoing manager isn’t certain whether the move will go through this summer.
“Raúl is a player who is definitely on América’s radar; he’s a great player for the Mexican national team, one of those forwards who can make a difference. I imagine it won’t be an easy signing, but I also don’t know if he’ll be our top priority,” he said.
Fulham have confirmed Marco Silva’s departure and are yet to appoint his successor. The new manager could have a big say on whether or not they renew the frontman’s contract.
As things stand, the Mexican is likely to leave the Premier League side as a free agent.
Future decision probably after World Cup
His immediate focus will be on the World Cup and he’s likely to make a decision on his future after the tournament. Whether that will be to extend the contract at Fulham or join another club is unclear.
Raúl Jiménez finished this season with 2,562 minutes from 43 matches, scoring 10 goals and contributing three assists. With a contract expiring in June, Transfermarkt value him at €3m.
