Stade Rennais manager Jorge Sampaoli has confirmed that Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi is on the verge of a move to the club.

Foot Mercato cover comments the Rennes manager made today in his press conference, in which he confirmed Kyogo was on the way.

Reports throughout the last week have had Kyogo edging towards a move to the French side, with it even reported that Jota Silva may move the other way and return to Celtic.

There has been confidence in France that Kyogo would be a Rennes player before long and now Sampaoli has confirmed that the deal could be done imminently.

“We hope that the operation will come to fruition today for Kyogo,” he said at his press conference.

“And if that is the case, he could have minutes in Monaco (Saturday, 5:00 p.m.) He is a player that we ardently wanted and who can bring us depth.”

The move will bring an end to a four-year spell at Celtic for Kyogo, who initially joined the Scottish champions in a €5.1m deal from Vissel Kobe in 2021.

He’s since gone on to make 165 appearances, with an impressive tally of 85 goals and 19 assists in that time.

It is those numbers which have presumably attracted Rennes to move for the 30-year-old, who it appears will officially be their player at some point today.
