Udinese manager Andrea Sottil has admitted it was “important” that they rejected Everton’s offer for striker Beto at the end of the January transfer window.
Everton failed to sign a single player last month, the only Premier League side to do so, despite an acceptance at the club that new additions were needed.
They spent most of the month targeting a forward and, after Arnaut Danjuma’s late change of mind, made several moves for forward players at the end of the window.
One of those they targeted was Beto, who had been named as a potential target in the months leading up to the January window.
A bid was lodged with Udinese but ultimately rejected by the Italian club, who decided to keep hold of the striker, who has scored seven goals and registered one assist in 20 games in Serie A this season.
He’s been a key player for them so far and Sottil admits it was “important” they keep hold of him and reject Everton’s late bid.
“Everton’s bid rejected. It was certainly important for us,” SOS Fanta report him saying.
“It’s not my area, I know the ownership well and I’m delighted with the squad I have and the management. I know very well that they are careful about everything.”
