A week or so ago, a report appeared stating that a couple of Ligue 1 sides were interested in Southampton’s Sékou Mara.
Among those were Lille, who recently managed to hold Paris Saint-Germain to a draw on Sunday evening, but who also lack firepower up top.
This was made clear by their manager, José Fonseca, who had a chat with Amazon Prime about his January transfer wishlist, which is when the presenter asked him directly about the Southampton striker.
Mara, who arrived at St Mary’s after impressing for Bordeaux, has failed to adapt to English football just yet, and that’s why the idea of a return to France, very likely on loan, made sense.
When faced with it, he put on a smile and simple said “I don’t know”, although his face did suggest he knew more than he was letting on.
That’s just us speculating, but it wasn’t a flat out denial that some managers may give to such questions, and there could certainly be something in it.
