As Manchester United edge closer towards the end of a disappointing season, the time to decide on the club’s next manager is drawing in.

Those in charge at Old Trafford will surely want to have someone in place to help decide on summer transfers, and also to take part in planning, and then conducting, preseason training.

The sooner everything is settled, the better.

Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are the two men being linked most with the Premier League club, and Manchester United’s support is already split on who they want.

Pochettino isn’t having a great time at PSG right now, and after the 3-0 loss to AS Monaco at the weekend, there were further questions asked about his future, regardless of whether he has the chance of moving to Old Trafford or not.

Monday’s edition of L’Equipe reported the route to Manchester United is ‘freer than ever’ for the Argentine, and on Tuesday the French newspaper looks at what it would cost PSG to sack him.

Pochettino is currently paid around €1.1m a month, and it’s stated it would cost ‘at least €15m’ to let him go.

Then there’s his coaches.

L’Eqipe explains: ‘Jesus Pérez, Pochettino’s first assistant, receives €80,000 gross every month. A sum worthy of a head coach. Another of his followers, Miguel D’Agostino, comes in at around €50,000. An identical salary is paid to Toni Jiménez, the goalkeeper coach.

‘Finally, Sebastiano Pochettino, the son of Mauricio, in charge of physical preparation, receives just over €20,000 a month. It is therefore more than €20 million, charges included, that would have to be spent to get these five people to leave, a year and a half after recruiting them.’

In comparison to Pochettino’s PSG €1.1m per month wage, L’Equipe say Pep Guardiola gets €1.89m, with Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte both on €1.49m.

Diego Simeone continues to be reported as the highest earning manager in football, said to be paid €3.33m a month.
