It appears that after Julen Lopetegui’s decision to turn down Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Premier League club have turned their attention to Pedro Martins.
The ex-Olympiacos boss was also seen as an option for Hull City, but the two parties were not able to reach an agreement, with it claimed the manager was hoping for something better.
Reports started to emerge in Portugal on Wednesday about talks already taking place between Wolves and Martins, which are further backed up on Thursday.
Noticias Ao Minuto are the ones pushing it, claiming they have ‘confirmed’ the news already claimed by other members of the Portuguese media, which is that the manager is in ‘advanced negotiations’ with the Molineux side, and that he is ‘on the verge’ of getting the job.
Were he to accept the job and be unveiled, he would be Wolves’ third Portuguese man in charge of the club after Nuno Espírito Santo and the recently dismissed Bruno Lage.
Martins did well at Olympiacos, winning three titles in a row between 2019 and 2022, but left in the summer after he failed to qualify the team for the Champions League, losing 4-0 at home to Maccabi Haifa, who have since beaten the likes of Juventus in the competition.
