PSV Eindhoven boss Peter Bosz has admitted he was left disappointed that Sepp van den Berg picked Brentford over the Dutch side this week.
The manager has been speaking about the matter at his press conference on Friday, relayed by Soccer News.
Van den Berg had been linked with a move away from Liverpool for months after returning from a successful loan spell in Germany.
PSV Eindhoven were one of the sides chasing him and trying to work out a deal with the Reds. It was made clear throughout their chase, though, that they couldn’t match Liverpool’s demands.
That eventually saw Van den Berg end up at Brentford, who moved quickly to secure the defender this week.
They were more than happy to pay the €25m Liverpool had been looking for, seeing them race ahead of PSV and Bayer Leverkusen in the race for the defender.
His move to London was completed this week, leaving the likes of PSV and Leverkusen frustrated.
That’s something Bosz is more than willing to admit, insisting it was very much a case of Brentford outspending them.
“I would have really liked to have Van den Berg at PSV, I had a very nice conversation with him, and he was keen to come to us,” he said.
“But we couldn’t reach an agreement with Liverpool. When you see the amounts, that makes sense.
“It didn’t work out with Van den Berg, so we are now going to get another very good player.”
