FC Union Berlin manager Nenad Bjelica has admitted Chelsea “took advantage” of a clause in their loan agreement with the club to bring David Datro Fofana back from the club this month.
The Union boss has been speaking about the transfer today after Chelsea elected to take Fofana back this month.
The striker had been with the German side since the summer, with Chelsea electing to loan him out so he could get regular football in a top five league in Europe and potentially even the Champions League.
The move did not work out as anticipated, though, as Fofana struggled for gametime, fell out with his previous manager and was largely considered a flop.
He showed positive signs towards the end of December before the German winter break but that did not stop reports suggesting that Chelsea could end the loan and potentially send him elsewhere, with Sevilla keen.
The first part of that became reality today when Chelsea cancelled the loan and took the striker back to Stamford Bridge, a decision Bjelica does not seem all that impressed by.
“It was so agreed between the clubs that it is contractually possible for Chelsea to bring him back. And they took advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
“The club is looking to improve the team. Now I’m focusing on the players that are there. We have enough players who are ready to play and can perform well – as early as Saturday.”
