Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with Flamengo youngster Wallace Yan, as we have been following closely, but the winger is now making headlines in Brazil for reasons beyond his talent.
Following Atlético Mineiro’s qualification for the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil, experienced striker Hulk, formerly of Porto and Zenit, shared details, via Globo, of a heated exchange with the 19-year-old, who has been drawing Premier League attention.
“During the first clash we had on the pitch, I told him to calm down because he was shouting at our players,” Hulk revealed. “I said ‘calm down, man’, and he replied ‘go (redacted) yourself’. I told him he had a foul mouth, and he said it again. So I told him: ‘man, you’re rude!’.”
According to Hulk, the tension started in the first leg at the Maracanã, when Atlético won 1-0. Despite the confrontations, the veteran insisted he had no personal issue with the Flamengo talent.
“I have nothing against him. I told him he’s a talented kid, and that sometimes the media provokes players. Everyone’s defending their badge. What we try to do is guide.”
Wallace Yan is seen as one of the most promising players in Flamengo’s current generation. Hulk acknowledged the player’s potential, but issued a clear warning to the Wolves target:
“He’s got a lot ahead of him. But he needs to keep a good mindset, otherwise he might ruin what could be a great career.”
Wolves’ interest in the teenager has yet to materialise into a formal move, but he remains on the radar as a long-term prospect. Whether this latest incident affects his profile or valuation remains to be seen.
