On Tuesday morning, we covered the first claims from Portugal saying Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the signing of Marcus Edwards from Vitória Guimarães.

The story came all of a sudden, written by a small weekly newspaper, which had an advertisement of a local pizza delivery place on their front page.

That’s why it sounded like a good idea to wait for a bigger outlet to report it. But even today, we don’t see very strong claims about this case.

Record brings a story which practically repeats what was said on Tuesday. They claim Manchester United and Tottenham are both interested in Edwards, and Vitória Guimarães are demanding between €20m and €25m for the sale.

However, Record usually make clear it’s their own information when they share any kind of exclusive story, and they don’t do it this time.

It’s also strange that A Bola and O Jogo, who are big sports newspapers in the country, completely ignore these rumours. Especially the latter one, who tend to be more focused on the Northern clubs.

So even though there may be something true in this, it’s best to wait until there are more reliable reports on it.

Marcus Edwards, who has seven goals and seven assists for Vitória Guimarães this season, doesn’t have a release clause at the club. When letting him go for free last summer, Tottenham Hotspur kept 50% of a future sale, so in other words, they’d get him with a 50% discount now.
