Every summer clubs likely plan that they won’t be doing any business right at the end of the window.
They’ll be more organised than that and will have all their ingoings and outgoings already sorted before the panic at the end of the market.
Despite that, more often than not, most clubs end up embroiled in some kind of business in the final week of the window.
For Manchester United it’s seen them get Harry Maguire over the line, and, unless anything goes very wrong at the last minute, sell Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan after months of negotiations.
As for incomings at Old Trafford, it feels like there’s nothing on the verge of happening. One potential signing has been Bruno Fernandes, with the Red Devils linked for several months.
Thursday’s edition of O Jogo doesn’t sound very hopeful and explains the details of Tottenham’s last ditch offer. Spurs had been looking at Bruno as an alternative to Giovani Lo Celso, and O Jogo says they offered €45m plus a further €25m in bonus payments.
That hit Sporting’s €70m asking price, but wasn’t the make-up of a transfer fee they wanted.
O Jogo states Manchester United remains a possibility as they’re ‘still in the market’ for an an attacker, however, there doesn’t feel a great deal of confidence over a potential move.
