It’s been over a year since Manchester United sacked José Mourinho and replaced him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Even though the results have not improved under the Norwegian’s guidance, several of the first team stars have committed their future to the Red Devils by signing new contracts and the list includes the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and David de Gea.

There have been several reports stating the Frenchman and a few other United players didn’t enjoy life at the club when Mourinho was in charge. So far, the 24-year-old has neither confirmed nor denied these claims.

However, Martial’s wife Melanie Martial Da Cruz has revealed the forward struggled under the Portuguese tactician and also explains hi situation at the club had an impact on their personal life.

“During our first two years together in Manchester, I experienced a very difficult period because José Mourinho did not play him (between 2016 and 2018),” Melanie said during an interview with L’Equipe.

“In these cases, Anthony shuts himself out. You know he’s suffering, but he doesn’t say it. I felt trapped in my sense of injustice because, as a wife, you can’t say anything (to the coach).

“We’re just watching our man go down. I was experiencing it so badly that I didn’t go to certain events so as not to meet the coach.”

There have been instances when a player’s partner has taken on social media to express their frustration on various issues related to football.

When L’Equipe asked Melanie if she took the same route, she said: “No, never, because Anthony doesn’t want to. You have to stay where you belong. On the other hand, when he came in and scored, I wanted to scream out my pride.”
